Since I hear Norton Internet Security 2006 kinda sucks, what is best to use instead?

I recently started seeing slow downs and issues when NIS 2006 boots up at start up and the stupid Protection Center scans and takes longer then normal to finish. This only started happening a week ago. Everything was fine, now when I start up my pc it seems to hang on that protection center and I can open anything else until its done. Before when it would take about a minute to run, now it seems it runs for over 5 minutes until its done. Any suggestions on a replacement software package for it that will do the same fuctions and run better. I was told that www.grisoft.com has a nice anti-virus package.

i use AVG Free, i like it, i have it on all my pc's.

avg and avast are great because they're free
CA eTrust Security is pretty good. it costs about $40 but I've seen rebates from 25-40

I use McAfee Security Suite 2006. To me, it's awesome.

McAfee is crap, trash it and get Sygate Personal Firewall.
