Howdy all!

I just pieced together a desktop system. When I turn the comp on, everything comes on...tower, monitor, but I get a single "beep" and the monitor reads "We apologize for the inconvience, but windows did not start successfully...blah, blah..."
"start in safe mode / last known / start windows normally"

choosing any of the above choices casuse the comp to restart, beeps, and I get the same message.

Any ideas to get this baby up and running? I belive it maybe a hard drive issue...not sure.

This is a starting point for me, so if you need more info, please let me know.

Thank you,
Euge

If you have put the comp together youself you'll know what BIOS you have and the 'beep' system to indicate all clear or some issue with the boot up.

Sounds like the first thing is to simply crawl all over it and check yr connections for a start.

BIOS Beep

Thanks for the response.

I crawled and crawled again. The beep codes for my BIOS:

one beep...
keyboard controller error, or
refresh time error, or
no master drive detected.

Did you have the OS installed b4 you put together the system? If you did then you need to reinstall the OS :)

With that BIOS beep code I would probably say it is your HD. Like Euge said, if you had it already installed then reinstal it. If it is a clean version of windows I would say it is probably the HD.

Yeehaw!

Mark C, Praetor, and Dsk954...

Thank you all for responding. This was my first comp I ever built. All new parts except the HD, DVD ROM, and CD ROM. So here is what I found:

1. I rechecked all the connections and could not find any fault.
2. Was sure it was the hard-drive...knew it was still good from my old comp.
3. Was in a parking lot and another person asked if I could give them a "jump"...heh, left her lights on. BINGO! went home and rechecked the jumper settings. I had the jumpers wrong on the hard-drive.
4. Made the correct setting, popped F8, and replaced the OS.

Updated and downloaded all the driver updates...running like a charm! Just in time to rev up for the new World of WarCraft game :)

Thanks again!
