Single NVIDIA 8800 GTX beats X1950 XTX CrossFire

Has anyone checked how many transistors are in that thing or the die size for that matter? It's freaking huge (681 someodd million transistors) and the GTX needs 2 PCIe power connectors so the draw stays within the ATX specification. It's crazy.

well... that makes us happy its not realized anymore with relais, right? :P

in 4 months, ati's ganna bring out some better card which will beat 2x 8800Gtx,
.

Do you have proof that ati will bring a card that will beat 2x 8800GTX ??

7800GTX came 5 months earlier than X1800xt, and when X1800xt came out it was barley able to outperform 7800GTX. So, the people who waited for X1800 were disappointed

Well obviously that won't happen, but tell me why you are so obsessive over nVidia, does it involve your sig? *rethorical question*

While your absolutely right that the new 8800GTX is the king of the hill atm, well the truth is it's ridiculously powerful! But now forget for a while that you happen to run that 6600 Vanilla and think about this, why on earth wouldn't you want the R600 to improve the PC graphic performance even further? You know it may or may not outperform the GTX, that remains to be seen. Now if the coin flips in ATi's favour then the technology advances yet another step and how is that in any way bad for us gamers? Explain to me why it matters which company is in lead as long as we continue to see healthy competition both price and performance vice, this if anything pushes the technology forward! Myself as a computer user want that, don't you?

And the people who bought a 78/9 series cards were not? *think X1900 series*

Listen, I don't mean to put you down or anything but please work on this fanboy syndrome you've developed and think outside the box. Because it's not healthy for your budget nor our posters to constantly have to repeat ourselfs over and over again, to make you fanboys realize that it does not matter! :)

yea thats not surprising. try comparing an x1900xt against dual 6800ultra's. thats about the type of difference you're talking about, this jump just came a bit quicker. probably since microsoft is releasing directX 10. i wonder if ATI will have anything soon, since its owned by AMD it may take a bit longer than normal.
then again, i wouldnt mind if one card company made all the cards, kind of like that nvidias "the way its meant to be played" and ati's "get in the game" controversy where some games were optimized for one type of card and some for another. i'd rather have all my games optimized for my computer.

As much as I like to drool over that card, and what it could do...the price is insane for me at least. I'd much rather wait a little bit and maybe buy it then, or just buy a 7950gx2. I want my dream system to be as "dreamy" as it can be, but with a card that price..there are limits, even to my dreams.

Isnt the 8800GTS for $499 cheaper then the 7950GX2 anyways?

I'm seriously considering buying the 8800 GTS. I know my CPU will be a bottleneck, so I need to find a single core Pentium CPU that works on an LGA 775 Mobo. Not sure which one to get...

Make sure your PS can handle it before you buy it. The GTS is a very sweet card IMHO. Why does it have to be a single core? Can't you flash your bios to support a dual core? Maybe even a C2D? :P

I wonder how the GTS will fare with DX10 games performance wise?

hmm... i do truly cherrish the idea of buying someones 7950GT2X's just because he want's to buy 2 8800GTX's.. and that wouldnt even be so bad i gues =]

Dx10

What about DX10 support? I'd pay the extra cash for a new GTS or GTX over a used GX2 for the future proofing. Considering there are a couple games coming out soon with DX10 support. :D

It'll take some time before the DX10 games will be released.. besides... DX9.0c looks really great... i cant be bothered weither its that or DX10, no? :)
also.. 600 euro for 1 8800GTX (500 for the GTS) or 300 euro for 1 7950GT2X? :o ah well.. maybe i wont be buying anything new anyway,.. but it just seems so tempting =)

Temptation mmmm good

Tempting yes but I guess when you are already running SLI and the DX10 games are maybe 3 months away (or more) I'd lay the $$$ only IF I was getting something new or newer for that future proofing. I'm looking forward to Crysis, UT2007. Too bad Supreme Commander wasn't DX10 from the get go or C&C 3. Ah well I agree 9.0C does look very nice. ;)

I've decided that my tax return money is going to be going towards the DX10 upgrade later on: Vista, DX10 card (R600 should be out by then...see what ATI can do, and how much it costs), and then just have to wait 2 more months for Crysis. :)

Well, I'm going to buy a bigger PSU as well. Is it possible to flash my bios to accept dual core?? I'd love to get a C2D!

Flashing Mobo.

You will have to find out what kind of motherboard it is and see if there is a new bios supporting dual core C2D's for it. :)
