I looked through the categories for this thread but didnt find. I though it might be a sticky on the site somewhere.

I thought I would start this thread so some feedback can be given to the admin, questions asked about the site can be answered or recommendations can be made.




I would like to recommend a reputation system for site members. So when very helpful advice or help has been given the member can gain reputation with the click of a button. This also can help with advice taken by the readers by being assured that little bit more, and of course the members are being accredited for their input.

I know when I first joined I was very scared to touch anything to change a setting or download programs. I have seen this reputation system on a automotive forum.
 
Yes it is a good idea. Though, I think reputataion is implied with the number of posts one has. The more he has been around this forum, the more that person probably knows about computers.

That is true, but also new members that know their stuff and are really getting into the forum are given credit too. And there are as in all forums the post bumpers and post hogs which can make their post count higher than it really ought to be.

True. You always have those. I don't think a reputation meeter is needed though. I think you would have too many dishonest rep movements. Friends bumping their buddies up, A holes dropping others for no reason. Did you see or hear about any of this on the car forum?
 
I personally think it would be open to abuse, as said above "buddies" and "mates" dreaming up a question and their mate answering it and getting a "click"

Anyhow everyone of us have a good reputation here:D:P
 
Haha thats funny. Once again I'm not sure if the application would be needed. If information is inaccurate there is often someone to correct it quite quickly. And hopefully enough, someone doesnt post unless they know what they are talking about. And I'm sure no one is out to give falso information either.
 
Well you can leave a comment when you leave the reputation, and most helpful advice will receive a justifiable comment. Take ebay for example I actually read the comments to make sure about the seller, anyone can whinge about 3 days late delivery and give a negative reputation. But the abuse of these systems will always be there.
 
A rep system on a buying/selling site is manditory. No business occurs here, only talk about computers. I do not see where it would be needed.

Was an example. My main thought on it was for the members to receive gratitude that doesnt disappear once the post has past its purpose.
 
I don't think a reputation system is a good idea because of the abuse it can lead to. I wouldn't mind seeing something like an "answered question" button similar to the way yahoo answers works

Yes that can be good.

Im sure the admin will look at pros and cons of all possibilites. This thread is just to give them some ideas if they wish to know members thoughts on things.
