I have Windows 7 Home Premium installed with all current updates and service packs. My question is, can anybody tell me with accuracy, how much of my hdd is Windows 7 using? Or is there a way of me finding out? properties of Crive C: tell me that 30.4gb of the drive have been used. Surely Windows cannot be using 30.4gb??? Or even anywhere near that I have a few other programs loaded but no more than .4 of 1gb in total...Need to know? What the hey is using so much space on my hdd

Right click on the windows folder on your c drive and click on properties. Thats as close as your gonna get as far as how much is used for windows itself, without programs installed.

Windows Pro has always been about 16GB for me, with update.

How much RAM do you have? It could be being taken up by paging file.

I think it is around 16GB for me too. That is running on 4 GB of RAM. I am 90% sure that Vista runs around the same size with page file turned off. This is all assuming that memory holds, as I am not looking at it at the moment and I normally use 2000 and XP.

for Windows 7, 60gb+ is better, at least 30gb, it possible successful if your space less than 30gb, but you will found not enough space for this system partition soon after used it for weeks.

your page file takes additional space along with hibernation which uses a hdd space and so does your system restore.

my pc has a few programs and comes in at just under 20gb

I am probably the only one who has the smallest amount.
My entire hard disk drive used space is 12.5 GB and this is what I have:

-Microsoft Windows XP Professional edition with the service pack 1,2 and 3 32-bit edition computer operating system

-Around 40 installed programs together with the Microsoft Visual Studio .NET

-1 game

-Neccessary Windows OS components needed for programming such as .NET 1.0 and so on...

-Also my page file on my 32-bit OS is at the maximum which is 4096 MB or 4.0 GB

So as you can see I have a lot of stuff and the total size is ONLY 12.5 GB.:D

I must admit that it took me some time to find a way to make ALL THAT to take so small amount of space. The reason why I wanted it to make it to take the smallest amount of space as possible is because I need that to fit on 3 DVD-ROM disks of 4.37 (4.7) GB in the case if I ever decide to burn my cloned HDD on 3 DVD-ROM disks.Because I do not want it to take more than 3 DVD disks lol.

Of course Windows 7 OS size is bigger, but if you do not do things properly and collect a lot of trash and junk and never clean unneccessary junk then the entire HDD size can increase a lot.

By the way...I just came back from the hospital few days ago.The operation I had on mandibula did not go so well and I will probably need to go in the damn hospital next week again.Life sucks lol!

Cheers!

If you are only counting Windows, then I am close with 2000. I only use 16 GB and most of that is songs in Tunes.

On Ubuntu 12 I am running at 8GB and 6 of that is the OS and swap space.

It's not just OS.It's everything I said above:

-Microsoft Windows XP Professional edition with the service pack 1,2 and 3 32-bit edition computer operating system

-Around 40 installed programs together with the Microsoft Visual Studio .NET

-1 game

The only things I did not put are all my program installers, pictures, documents and musics because that takes too much room and did not want to make it a part of my HDD clone.
