i have a sony external dvd writer. i tried watching a movie on it today and it skipped like crazy. the audo was fine and didnt skip. but the video would pause and the catch up every quarter of a second or so. i tried two movies that i made back ups of. and then i tried both originals as well. all 4 did the same thing. all my movies play perfect on my sond dvd player for my TV but wont work on here. is there something wrong with my computer, sony unit, or dont you know. and troubleshooting i can do? thanks

The problem must be with your pc. Original commercial dvds should read with no problem.
Audio is a low bitrate compared to the video. Something is interfering with the flow of data over USB or with the cpu, causing loss of sync. I would check to see what other things are running. Task Manager will show how much of the cpu is being used for other things. I have an old pc and with PowerDvd the cpu runs at about 35% once the dvd is playing steadily.
Did the problem start out of the blue? Anything else happen fairly recently? Do you check regularly for malware? Probably not relevant but what player are you using?
