Sky Lake, Kaby Lake, and Coffee Lake - what to expect?

Next month I'll start saving money to buy a new desktop machine - the budget will be more or less $1500 to $1700.

We don't have crystal balls, obviously. But I was wondering - is the coffee lake architecture still aimed at mainstream users (I've read somewhere that it supports up to 6 cores). It's still almost a year away.

On AMD's side - by that point, they will probably release II gen Ryzens.

Or I shouldn't worry about this at all?

Aren't those supposed to be a 10nm shrink?

It should just be synonymous with the kaby offering as far as features and target audience

Coffee lake is still a 14nm die. It's just a refinement of Sky Lake and Kaby Lake. Cannon Lake, Ice Lake and Tiger Lake will be 10nm die shrinks.

Lame. I'd usually expect more of the same but maybe Intel will bring back 6+cores on the mainstream platform due to ryzen
