If anyone doesn't know yet, SkypeOut has gone free! So now you can use the free software on your computer to call for free to any land line in the US or Canada. I just got it, it's pretty cool. So now I can call in a sandwich from the kitchen directly from my computer... (not that I would, but it's still good to know). Just thought I'd share that, in case anyone didn't know (it's kind of a new thing, I just found out. Will save a lot of money on long distance should you be calling Alaska from Miami or something like that.

Good luck,
John

Ah damnit...do you know if they plan to make it free for people in the UK? (although knowing this country probably not).

Sorry, It didn't say anything about expanding to the UK

We'll trade you those free SIM cards for free SypeOut... Deal? :)

It's perfect, I tested it out and called the home phone and a relative a state over... They can hear me perfectly and I can hear them perfectly, I would definetly go for it if I were you.

i just got the email today. is it any good tho? i tried that stuff 5yrs ago and it was horible.

Skype is better than normal phone quality now. Or in my opinion it is. :)

Doubt it's better than digital phone lines, but a normal phone line (if you have a good mic) is pretty easy to beat. My cell phone is clearer than my GF's home phone lol.

Free long distance here lol

I read somewhere that SkypeOut was only going to be free for a year, just so as to compete on level terms with Yahoo's similar service. Is that correct?

Yes, it's free until the end of the year. So we only get 7 months to enjoy free skype out. Most likely they did this so that people dl the software, then at the end of the year, people go 'what the hell' and buy some credit.

I won't, but it's still good to have free SkypeOut for 7 months :D.

Can anyone say....Phone-war driving??:D

A friend told me about this lastnight... I've used it about 6 times...works great...and its free!!!

(there is a slight delay in the voice though...)

No way ... so now I can call all my American eBuddies for free ^_^ Brilliant. *chuck* There goes my phone book of 1-800 numbers. :)

my thoughts exactly, would it still be free if you were in the UK to call a landline in canada or the US though?

Lee :)

If I call the canada / USA (normal land phone) using skype here in Switzerland, will it be free?

EDIT: Oops... Didn't read the above. Well, would it?

Hi.
This service is only free to calling in USA and Canada to USA and Canada numbers :) And this is clearly marketing, because it lasts 7 months and then so-so many people are using it and then they are going to buy some credit as well.
