I've got a pretty nice computer. I got it two years ago, and the brand is Gateway. It has 8gb ram and is quadcore with a decent graphics card (ATI Radeon). I've had no problems running the following games . . .
Reason I ask this question: why is Skyrim lagging? Is because Skyrim wasn't lagging for the first 50-100 hours of gameplay. Everything was running smoothly and with seemingly very little work. In fact, when I first launched the Skyrim application it set my settings on HIGH.
Then things started to get laggy when I started to kill some ghosts/wraiths that were especially high in quality (lots of active visual effects). At first I thought it was just because I was dealing with a sudden burst of very demanding visual effects, but even after completing the dungeon, I was unable to handle places that never lagged before.

What have I done?
Well, I've gotten to defragging my disc. I've ran CCleaner. I've also removed "free space" files. I've updated my ATI radeon card, and cleared over 100gb of files on my CPU. Seems to have no change. I'll list my CPU specs below and see if anyone can help a poor guy out.
