Slackware and onboard NIC

I'm having problems getting my onboard NIC to work under Slackware Linux... I downloaded the drivers from the Asus website, installed them according to the README (make load, ifconfig eth0 up) but its not working. I tried rebooting after I did that, and I tried ifconfig and it wasn't showing eth0 at all.

Whats going on? Keep in my my limited Linux know-how :p

The instrctions said I could type insmod 3c2000.o as well, so I did try that and it produced the same results as above. Though I hadn't tried looking at the listing. I'll try that later to see.

After rebooting, it isn't listed with lsmod, though after loading it with with insmod 3c2000.o it shows up. A user on another forum said to try this (after loading the driver, of course):
ifconfig eth0 192.168.1.105 netmask 255.255.255.0
route add default gw 192.168.1.1
Which didn't work either. This is starting to get annoying, makes me feel like going out and spending $10 on an older NIC...

No error messages that show, I'll check the logs when I boot back in later.

Yeah, thats what the instructions said.
