Slave detection problem

Hi all!
I have Zida ZX98 Mainboard (yeah, old indeed) with two IDE channels. IDE1 have 40GB 5400 Maxtor and IDE2 - DVD-RW.
I'm trying to install second HDD 20GB 7200 Maxtor.
Everything is OK - jumpers, cabels, BIOS detection BUT I can't make everything work together (40+20+DVD).
I can detect the devices in BIOS but when I start windows (XP) I can't see the device which is slave... for example if IDE1=40GB HDD and IDE2=DVD (master) + 20GB HDD (slave) I can't see the 20GB HDD (in win).
What can be the problem? :confused: :mad: The cable is 40pin IDE.

Yes I'm with XP. I can't see it. If it's master i see it but i dont see the dvd which is slave.

Again the problem is that i cant see the slave device at all in windows.

Check your bios setup...maybe try t look at the boot priority option some motherboards have this feature....

Put the hdd in the primary master and primary slave,then put the DVDrom as secondary master/slave...hope these helps:D be sure on your jumper settings

I did this -> Nothing

@onesandzeros> it's DVD. What do you mean by "to alter the auto settings". To put it on AUTO (i did this too) or to change AUTO to manual? :)
