slave drive problem

I have two DVD drives in my computer and the slave drive wont exactly work. I know the drive works becuase it was in my dads computer and worked just fine. Then when i put it in my computer it worked for like the first 5 times i tried using it. Now if theres a disc in it, it acts like theres not one in it, if you go to My Computer and click on the drive is says "please insert a disc" I had the same problem with another drive to. Any ideas? thanks

Did you set the jumper to the slave setting? Your dad probably had the one drive which was set as the master. When installing in your case you would have to set it to the slave position. If you have already done that try the cable select position and try a different cable to see if that is the problem.
