SLI, agian...

Hey all, got another question about SLI. What is the difference between an SLI and SLI x16? The motherboard i'm getting has SLI but is not under the filter "SLI x16" on newegg. But the mobo does have two PCI-e 16x ports...can I still connect two 16x SLI video cards?

I would say that SLI x16 just is talking about what kind of port you have, which is what you have, so just get a pci-express x16 card and you'll be fine.

SLI is typically PCIe 8x per slot, where SLI 16x is 16x per slot.

if it doesn't say SLI X16, it most likely means that if you run 2 cards in SLI, they will each run in X8 mode. SLI X16 means that they both keep X16.

The Foxconn NF4SK8AA-8KRS runs in PCI-x8 when in SLI mode
Note that the SLI switch is physical switch between the two PCIx16 slots, and when in sli mode with 2 gpus and the bridge card I doubt the PCIx1 will be any good

SLI of PCI-E X16 is impossible, at least currently. both cards only can work in X8 mode(biggest bandwidth). maybe in the future nVidia can release new driver to make it possible at x16 at the same time.

SLI X16 has been around for quite some time now. It's only on higher end models, though, like the Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe, M2N32-SLI Deluxe, A8R32-MVP Deluxe, etc...
