SLI and power consumption

Anyone know if turning off SLI will reduce power consumption when I'm not playing a game and don't need the horsepower? It might no matter I suppose. I was just wondering if it would be worth the few clicks to turn it off.

thanks

Try it and see if your power bill goes down. OR you can by a little digital meter that you put on a power socket. Then plug the computer to the meter, it will read how many Watts your using in real time. I have no idea where to get one, but yes they are real. I forget the name though...

I don't think so, both graphics cards are active regardless if you are in 3d mode or not, certainly when running Sli rigs, the cost would be a bit higher than a single graphics card rig. With performance comes big power bills, that rule is true in this instance.

well, actually it will... but not much. to explain ive seen tests done where one card alone consumed about 200 watts and adding the second card increased consumption from 200 to 260 watts... so it does use more, but just having the card plugged in consumed a little bit so i'd say keep it plugged in. also, try using fluorescent light bulbs in your house. they cost a bit more than regular light bulbs, but they do last a lot longer and the real savings comes in your electric bill.. they use a lot less electricity.

LOL using fluorescent light bulbs are a win-win for anyone, they cost less to run and lasts longer, what more do you what? But if you are going to Sli high end graphics cards, be prepared for the massive electricity bill, unless you generate your own power of course.
