im just wondering, an SLI compatible power supply, is this just a hoax? im planning on getting a new power supply soon, and im planning on getting a good 500-600 or higher watt rated power supply. the ones that say "sli compatible" on newegg are REALLY expensive. i was wondering if this is some sort of hoax, because the card comes with its own power chord and everything...
any help would be appreciated!

the only reason they say "sli-compatible" is because they have 2 pci-ex power adapters

yeah, but my powersupply has 2 pci-x power adapters and it's not "sli-compatible"

Well it's not a bad marketing tool really. I mean if you really don't know any better and your making your PC for the first time some newbies I guess would fall for it and spend the extra money.

two pci-ex power adapterss... that plug into the mobo? because ive got all my motherboard power adapters plugged in, and the cards that you buy come with their own adapter/converter... i mean, all i need is the means to plug both cards in? haha... thats good news as long as its factual! im gonna wait for praetor or someone to post though! he seems like he knows what hes doing normally.

The PCIe connectors are 2x3pin ones. They look like this:

Wait... if you really don't need the extra plugs since they come with the cards, why do you have to buy an "SLi compatable PSU"? Or you don't?:o

Just as long as you have enough 12V amps, you're set for an SLi setup, SLi-compatible PSUs prolly also have high amps too. look at the amp specs on the "SLi-compatible" PSUs

hmm... yea i installed my new video card. im thinking i might need to unplug some other stuff if i ever do upgrade to SLI lol!
oh well, ill figure it out... it'll be awhile til i need to anyways.

Ya... and you might not have to if you get ATi's new 48 pixel pipeline video card. My friend told me it had that much and that nVidia's new graphics card was going to have 30 something, but I havn't really looked into yet... guess it's time to google:D

Ya there ya go, but I've already read that article... but I don't know where my friend got that it's gonna have 40 something pixel pipelines.
