if a mobo says it's SLI does that mean both PCI-E's are 16x? so when i put both cards in they both run in true 16x speed.

Actually its more like 1.5 or 1.75 times. There are a few games I think that actually get lower FPS if SLI is enabled.
 
Either way, it should really increase the performance. Lower FPS doesn't mean that much, you will still have good quality.
 
Ugh, ok listen up... You get higher framerates at higher resolutions because the load is split. You usually lower framerates at lower resolutions because of the added overhead. And no, again, not every board is 16x and 16x. Many are 8x and 8x when in SLI, and 16x when not. Read the specs. There's a new nForce out(I think the nForce SLI 16x or something like that) that does have 16x for both, but not every board has this...

Actually on most motherboards when you use two cards, they run at 8x each. Right now there is no performance increase with 16x over 8x, since no card uses that much bandwidth.
 
Either way, their is still a performance increase, not double...but a very big notice from say one 7800GT to two 7800GT's.
