SLI Problem: Cards Recognized, SLI Enabled, but no performance gain or icon

Hey there,

So, I've got an Asus P5n-e SLI, with dual 8800 GT cards from different makers. I have them connected with the Asus SLI bridge. I have a Q8200 OC'd to 2.8, and an OCZ 650 watt PSU.

Both cards are recognized, and I have the newest nvidia drivers. SLI is enabled in the nvidia control panel and the SLI icon is turned on.

So far so good.

But: When I actually play a game, the SLI icon does not appear, and the performance is the same (or less) than what I was getting with just one of the cards. I've tried reinstalling the drivers, reconnecting the bridge... nothing helps. I've run several games and benchmarks and the results are the same: no performance increase from SLI, and no SLI icon.

Any ideas?

On the motherboard have you switched out the little card between the PCI-E slots so it goes into daul gpu mode? that could be your problem.

See that red card? you need to flip it so that where it says dual video cards face into the socket it goes into. this enables the second PCI-E slot.

have fun with SLI :D

I love this thread. SLI, crossfire and dual gpu graphics cards are the problem, just get rid off the second GPU and problem solved. I have been to 4 computer shows and played on many SLI, crossfire and dual gpu graphics card computers. They get more fps, but look like they are getting less, because of micro stutter and they do my head in. Maybe its just me and other people dont notice it, but so far i have never seen a SLI, crossfire or dual gpu graphics card which does not have this problem. Though they are great for setting high 3dmark scores.

Sorry for the slow reply, and thanks for the advice.

I had the card in the right way (but that's a good point, and I should have mentioned it initially).

I've actually got it working as of last night. It was a driver issue. To fix it, I had to install the 186.xx series of drivers, then move back to more recent ones. Suddenly the SLI bar appears on my games. I think there was also an issue with Steam games not being properly detected by the NVCP, but it's working now.

Shlouski: I know what you mean, now that I have it working, it does seem a little spasmodic, in some games at least. Anything to be done, or is that just the way it is?
