SLI Setup problem

Hi all,

I have had two graphics cards (2x - XFX 6800GT 256Mb PCI-E) since Christmas 06, and have them working in SLI mode. However a few weeks back I took my computer apart to clean it, when I put the cards back in, I could not enable SLI…. In the Nvidia options it does not say I have an SLI system, even though the two cards have been fitted correctly and have the SLI bridge connected.

I have reformatted my computer numerous times and I still cannot get SLI going… Both cards are working as they both run separately with no problems.

Added:

I have the latest drivers Nvidia drivers

Any help would be much appreciated :)

I don't know if this could make a difference but, who knows.

Did you switch the cards by any chance? Like put them in different Pci-E slots?

SLI Setup problems

Wow, thanks for all the replies!

No I put the cards in the same slots originally, however I have tried swapping them about

Try clearing the CMOS ??

No I have not…. I ll give it a go though

Did you switch this to sli mode?

Yes, the card has been switched to dual video cards

try bios options for sli mode enable sli mode if enabled try to clear CMOS.

There are no options in the BIOS to enable SLI, but I ll try clearing the CMOS

I ll post 2moz and let you know what happens, once again thanks for the replies!:D

OK peeps, sorry for the late reply, but I have been busy :(

I have just removed the CMOS and tried SLI, but it has not worked....any more ideas?

did you ground yourself? sounds like you could've shocked something to me. btw your supposed to use compressed air, or a vaccuum to clean dust out.

I did use an anti-static band like always, so yes I was grounded. (thx for the relply btw)

What else can I try???

Hi, Just registered here.

I have had exactly the same problem. I have two 256 MB 6800s and I have had nothing but problems with them. The computer would randomly reset with the cards in but worked fine with the onboard graphics enabled. The drivers were flaky and once I got SLI up and running, one day I just said that my motherboard does not support SLI when it had been working fine for months. A few weeks later one of the cards just went and died.

I returned the first card and threw the other in the trash. I ordered an ATI X1800 for $250 from eBay and it's worked fine. A bad experience with NVIDIA has definitely turned me off their products.

if you install everest,.. does it see the 2 grafic's cards in the slots?
and you're absolutely sure the SLI-switch of the motherboard is set to SLI?
( my motherboard recognized the 2nd grafics card, so i dont have a SLI switch,. but quite a lot motherboards have )
make sure that one is put in place well. because it sounds to me like that is the problem tbh.

Just what I was going to say, some boards have a jumper or switch, you didnt move it when you cleaned everything?

That’s Funny the same thing has happed to me, the one card is now dead so I won’t be getting SLI for a while :(

BTW thanks for all the replies though peeps :)

are both cards properly seated in their slots? Take them out and make sure they are securely in the system.

I'm not sure about anyone else but the cards were definitely seated correctly in my case.

My system was stable and cool so I can't see any reason why my card would have died.

I checked Google and I see quite a few people have been having SLI mysteriously stop working. After all the money I wasted I find it hard to recommend NVIDIA products any more.
