I just recently switched boards from an intel w/ 865pe to an asus p4p800se (also 865pe). when i installed the processor it had an ever so slightly bent pin... can i bend this back? its just a fraction off, but i dunno what kind of damage this can cause. thanks

well i wont fit in the socket if the pin is bent to much and if you try force it then it may break. Your best bet is to try to bend it back, or take it to a jewelry repair shop and see if they will do it for you. It may be one of the redundent pins what is the cpu

I've had quite a few old cpu's with bent pins, the trick is to only bend it back to the position you need it. If you go to far then you will have to come back the opposite way..... then it will just snap off.

the best way to fix bent pins is to use a macincal pinsel and use it to bend it back. Be careful moving it to muck will snap it off

I beleive he meant mechanical pencil ;)

I just use my fingernail. My current processor came with a bent pin(thanks newegg -.-) Usally, as long as you don't sit there and bend them back and forth, they are quite sturdy. Now, of course, if you keep moving it back and forth, it's going to weaken the metal and eventaully snap

well i bent it back with my fingernail and it slid right in... however i got new problems i guess ill search/post in mobo section... thanks

be careful!
i have no clue how i've never had this problem... ive sanded the top of the IHS down to the copper + mirror finished it, still no problems... lol
you're supposed to use a type of rubber like neoprene to protect the pins, if the pins are slightly bent it doesn't hurt to touch them if that's what you're asking. just make sure there's no lint or rubbing alcohol left in there...
and ESPECIALLY do not spit on it! i know people who've blown on it... particles of spit must have fried their chip or something lol..

btw in your sig it says your ram is running 2T... 4sticks of 512mb?
2T can cut down performance ALOT btw. like 25% in some apps... of course near 0% in others lol.
