Hi guys, im new here. Trying to learn as much as i can, while I piece together my new HTPC, which ill open a thread on later on.

Currently my pc at work is running on OS Windows XP Pro 2002 Version. I work as an appraiser for a dealership, on our system we run Mitchell Estimate Guide. Lately the system has been running really, really slow. I thought it was the program, but unfortunetly it isnt the program. Im looking to find out if there is anything I can do to check the performance of this PC? If so, please point me in the right direction.

The computer seems to only be going really slow when im using the program. If the program is minimized on the desktop, the computer seems to work fine.

Any help would be appreciated!
Thank in advance!

Carlos,
I'm not going to rag on Windows but this is exactly why I run the free OS, Ubuntu. I'm going to guess that it has been months since the unit was defragged and this must be done on a monthly basis. Before you go there you will need to get some of the speed back in it though. From the internet search for "Ad-aware Free," and download it from the Lavasoft web site and run it. It should find 300 or more infestations. Do Not fear putting them into quarentine, any program that requires Spy-ware to run, you do not need on a business computer.

there will not be a surge in speed. Next download RegscrubXP from the majorGeeks website and run it. It should find a hundred or better Registry Errors. Click the button at the bottom left to select all errors and then the one near the center to fix all errors and relax a minute or two.

Now, defrag the harddrive and it will run just as fast as the day it was purchased and you just saved the company $1500 dollars for a replacement unit. Good luck and God bless Amigo.
