slow computer

Can anyone tell me how i can get my computer to speed up.Just lately its gone realy slow,It takes ages for it to load.

You will need to be more specific to get an answer and also confirm what hardware and OS you are running. Let us know if it is a laptop or desktop, if it is slow just when booting or in general etc. As much info as you have.

Slow booting is usually due to your computer looking for devices that are no longer associated with it, an old printer which has not been uninstalled etc, it is looking to connect to these but they no loner exist and wastes time looking for them. Also, you could have MSN, Open Office, Real Player quick start all loading when Windows starts.

The ultimate solution to speed up a computer, and also a free option
Is to simple format/reinstall the operating system

I did this just a couple of days ago to our old family pc that’s has been running since 2000 with out any previous reformat.

Its start time went from around 6mins!
To now about 100secs

Not bad for a dinosaur

A sudden slow down when one day it was all right and the next its very slow may be an indication to malware.

Can you think of any recent activities or software installs that may have contributed to this slow down

If you have windows download and install and run this.

http://www.ccleaner.com/download/

Go to the 'issues' tab and run, than select fix all.

You can also use it to scan and delete useless files on your computer. Make sure to select what you do not wanted deleted. Do not worry it won't delete files or applications.

Your registry has a lot to do with 'speed' in some sense. Less clutter, faster, unless you have sever Hardware limitation, such as an antiquated system.

Other than that, defragment your hard drive.

Programs - Accessories- System Tools - Defragment

This should increase system performance.

For a slow start up, always go to the RUN command and type 'msconfig'. Go to the start up tab and uncheck programs you do not need to load with windows. This will increase start time tremendously. As far as generalize sluggishness, have you defragmented lately? To do this, go to Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Defragmentor. Select the hard drive that Windows is installed on and Defragment.
