Slow down after adding memory?

Hello,

I had currently been running 2 Corsair 512 sticks of pc3200, ddr400 which a benchmark program of mine gave me a 22,000 just for reference.

I purchased a new single stick of Kingston 1 Gb, ddr400 - and when running the same benchmark test I receive 11,500.

Bios reflects mem is installed and running.

With 2gb total now, my mem speed slowed down? Is it because I went from running dual channel on the 512's to single channel adding the 3rd, 1gb stick?

Any suggestions/thoughts much appreciated!

...if I add another 1 gb stick = 4 total (3gb) running dual channel, would that solve the problem all the way around?

Yes, you see the difference because your memory is no longer running in dual channel mode. Try moving the 2 512mb sticks to the same channel and putting the 1GB in the other, it may run dual channel.

When going from a pair of Corsair xms series 512mb dimms here to a pair of 1gb Kingston Value Ram dimms the improvement was seen by using both channels with the same size memory, type, and timings. You added 1gb dimm to the existing two 512mbs. Generally whenever adding a different make and type of memory you follow the advice given by Cromewell to install that on the other channel. The faster and/or larger memory is generally installed on the first or primary channel with the smaller(two 512mbs for instance) on the second or secondary channel. With a second 1gb Kingston dimm you would remove the Corsair and use that on the second channel to see the gain there. You won't see the two makes and types clash.
