Slow downloading

I've been downloading songs and albums for ages and i recently bought a dvd burner so i've downloaded a couple of movies. Downloading songs and albums is fine, i downloaded a 90MB album yesterday in about 30 mins. Now i don't know if thats good or not but im pretty happy with that. One movie i downloaded was around 800MB, and it took approx 36 hours to download. That, i'm not happy with. I was told to ring my ISP to get them to do a ping and they said it was fine. So what do i need to do to get my downloading speed up? The computer is probly 4 or 5 years old now, but other than this problem its still pretty good. Am i able to upgrade anything to make it faster?

If you want to download faster:
1. Don't upload while downloading
2. Only download 1 file at a time.
3. Download files with as many Peers/Seeds/connections possible
4. Don't let your little brother play on the PC in the other room (same router)
5. Optimize the settings for download in an program you use (minimize for upload)
