Slow HD write speed

I have a Western Digital WD400 40GB IDE Hard disk running on Ultra-DMA 5 and 80-pin IDE cable. When I did a test, I found the write speed is SUPER slow! Is it slow or HD write speeds are like that? If it's a problem, can someone tell me the solution for it?

NOTE: There is a bug in the app (pictured above). The actual HD read speed is 45.46 MBytes/s.

from experience the hdd gets slower when it gets filled up. how many space do you have left? and what is the rpm of the drive. oh yeah make sure it is running in dma mode and not pio. check the bios.

oh yeah the psu may not have enough amp to supply to all those devices that you have in your pc. i remember my old 13amp psu couldnt handle a 6600gt.

try disconnect the two cd rivers and try doing the test and see what happens. 45 for an ide sounds about right. never hurts to retest it without other devices stealing power.

No, it should be comparable to the sequential read rate unless it's using smaller data block sizes. Do you have another benchmarking program you can try?

No, can you suggest one?

EDIT: Also, when I was installing NFS: Carbon, it shows the file its currently copying so I get the size and time(seconds) of the file to be copied successfully. When I did TIME(seconds) divided by SIZE, I get the answer around 2.89.

lol your installing off a DVD/CD i take it from your last comment thats not a good benchmark as it can only go as fast as the DVDrom tansfer speed

www.hdtune.com

note: if the program is "bugged" why were you using it??!
it looks like its a cheesy program. try hdtune, its generally less cheesy. lol
btw, nice avatar. quake 4 is such a sweet game... so gory and sadistic.

Hmmm. You have two problems. First, the WD is a dog. Second, the VIA chipset is also a dog. You can't ask a lot out of either one of them. Have you checked the cache settings of the drive? That might yield some clues and give you a bit more oomph, but don't expect a whole lot.

WD isn't a dog! VIA is!

You have a mounted image on your hard drive and are copying files to the same hard drive. It's not going to go that fast. It should be faster yes, can you copy from hard drive to hard drive and whats the rate?
