Slow internet browsing

Guys, I have noticed lately that my internet browsing speed has slowed considerably and was wondering if there is anything that I can check within my PC to troubleshoot the cause. I can open other applications very quickly so I don't think its the processor and I also can verified that the CPU usage in the task manager is very low. One thing that I have done lately was uninstall some old Java updates but I checked my current version on the java homepage and it scanned my machine and said that versions were updated. Any suggestions would be great

DSL ultra high speed. Its not the downloading speeds that is slow its the actual browsing from site to site or even within a site. Its like it hangs for a while before going to the next page.

Are you using firefox? If so or if not, try it or another browser. See what you get from that. Also, by hang do you mean it freezes a bit? Or better yet what message does it say at the bottom left of the screen? Should be something like Waiting for www. ect ect or connecting, ect ect.

I am using internet explorer 6.0 etc. Yes it freezes on the page I am leaving for some time. For example if I leave this page and go to gm.com it can take about 15 seconds for the gm home page to start displaying and then another few seconds for all the objects on the page to open fully. I don't remember it being this slow. So if I want to try another browser what is envolved to make that change.

Could be an issue with the connection. Are you coming right off your DSL modem?

If not then what type of router/switch are you using?

Do this, go to your command prompt. start....run......then type CMD. Type in this "ping www.Google.com". What are you getting under "time=" and "TTL=" (not really important but Id like to know)? Try that with a few sites and give me your results.

I had a netgear that randomly starting having issues with NAT, so who knows, things happen.
To change your browser its simple, you can run multiple browsers at once. Just download firefox 3 and install it. After that just open it up and see if its faster.

Ok just thought of something else, if you are running a router, unplug it and plug just your computer into the modem. If the speed increases then it may be your router going out.

Thats a bit high, but it really just depends on how far you are from the server.
I get around 49 average.
Next step is to do this. Go to this site, and run the test. Let me know the results. http://www.speedtest.net/
My results are Download:3043 kb/s(I get around 350kBs or so download) and Upload:537kb/s(around 53kBs upload)I have DSL too
There is a difference between kb and kB kilobits and kiloBytes
In networking they measure in kb and not kB, kB is what you see when you are downloading or uploading something.

I think you already found my problem. Just installed firefox.....what a difference in browsing speeds...thank-you very much. My internet explorer must be outdated or something.
Just to answer you questions above my download speed is 5088Kb/s and upload is 534Kb/s.

Well, not only is it out dated, it never was the best. IE isn't the best browser out there. Tell your friends about Firefox, it needs all the support it can get. Also look into addons, they have some cool addons for firefox. I recommend Ad block plus.
I'm also really surprised nobody other then me has been replying to this thread, this issue you had is rich with trouble shooting possibilities. Anyways, happy browsing.
