Slow internet

I'm just wondering what would cause slow internet on select computers in a network. It's weird, cause the internet on my computer(wireless) is incredibly sketchy compared to my parents computer(wired). The internet is coming from the same router, I have good signal(4 out of 5 bars), and I never have trouble connecting to the router, just the internet. I have a hunch our router is defective, but before I blame it is there any possible way that the computer itself is causing slow internet?

Wireless will always be slower or have more issues than hardwired routers. So long as it works, I doubt there are any issues. Routers are almost always the slowest gateway device in a network. It sucks, all you can do is update firmware and optimize your tcp/ip settings and hope for the best.

Well, this has nothing to do with the limitations of wireless routers. I'm talking about it's going slow to the point of it taking 3 minutes to load a single webpage. Sometimes it just plain doesn't work, but there are also times where it goes as fast as the computer hooked up with ethernet(quite rare though). Unplugging and replugging in the router sometimes works.

I guess I should mention that with my last wireless router I wasn't having any of these troubles. Only changes in my computer are I had Vista RC1, which has since been replaced with the release version.

I wish I could be of more help, I usually recommend against wireless, and therefor have limited experience with it.

The status light and the WLAN light are blinking at the same time, I take it theres an internal problem with the router?

You should be able to find manuals or PDF's of them online to help you determine what each blinking light means. What model/brand is it specifically?

Lol, 2 person thread I see..

It's a D-link DI-524.

I'm guessing that "Status" doesn't mean anything good, especially when the blinking coordinates with the WLAN light, meaning that something's wrong with the wireless.(?)

Anyway, in a couple minutes here I'm gonna try plugging in my original router to see if that fixes it at all.

ok, updated drivers from 5.00 to 5.10, and it seems to have fixed the problem. Thanks for the suggestion holdenssx!! You are my freaking saviour, I never would have thought of that. My internet is going just as fast as the wired computer now.

You have no idea how frustrated I was getting with my internet...

My first post in this thread, you are welcome..lol..

Crap dude, sorry about that. I guess I didn't notice that, I just saw the thing about TCP/IP settings:o Well thanks anyway, didn't mean to pass off your credit.
