Slow LAN

ok, as some of you guys know i have a server for sharing internet with 2 computer and as a data storage hub, but i have a bit of a problem, the internet runs fine and at full speed but when moving files to and from the server its just too slow, like 165KB/s with a 10/100 LAN. is there any way to make it faster? i have tried resetting my network switch and the server but with no success. Any idea?
Thanks guys

so you're working with 2 network card in the server and everything internally is very slow?
i'd check network card drivers
and what kind of switch do you have? is it managed? then i'd check out the mac table.
do you run dns? or wins or something like that?
does it run slow between the 2 computers in the network (not the server)

no just one lan card connected to a switch and then splits from there. Driver are fine, i just have a basic unmanaged switch which gave me full speed untill a week or so ago. how do i check the mac table? no i dont have it set for a DSN server, dont see the point when its just acting and a VPN/NAT, file server and folding. what do you mean by wins?
yeah it runs at the same speed on both computers. if i can help it i dont wanna upgrade to gigabit lan at the mo

you can't check mac table if you've got an unmanaged switch.
wins is and older version of dns some people still use it

Sounds like your switch is going bye bye :P
i'd connect 2 computers directly via a cross cable and see if it's still slow.

ok i tried a crossover cable and its still slow, same speed as before.
Any other ideas???

you connected 2 pc's directly? without any interference of the switch? so i mean pc - cable - pc? if so then i'd do a repair install on both pc's
if not then try it :P

yeah disconnect the switch completely from the network, and yeah pc- x-over cable - server.
ill give that a shot and ill let you know.
Thanks
