Slow PC (2GB and Pentium 4 2.60 GHZ)

Hey

I have a Computer that is this:

DabsValue PC (www.dabs.com)
Pentium 4
2.60 GHZ
2GB Ram
80GB
CD/RW DVD Rom

Erm nothing else really. I dont know what the Video Card is or graphics card, but they should be ok.

Anyway my problem is that it runs SLOW. I run alot of movie making programs like Movie Maker and Camtasia Studio 4 and even Adobe Premiere. Now with 2GB and Pentium 4 these should run smoothly - but they dont. They freeze all the time and sometimes dont put the audio etc. it really bugs me.

Sometimes when i am playing music, Windows Media Player will freeze and start playing all skitty, miss bits out etc.

Sometimes it just freezes.

Does anyone know anything that i can do to get it to work fast, i have done loads of Defrags and Disk Clean-ups but it just doesnt want to be fast.

Please Help.

do a scan for spyware and virus, look around the forum for which one to use.

Sorry for the double post

Did a AVG scan and found a Trojan Horse... said it has been deleted, PC as slow as ever.

PLEASE HELP! i have some serious editing coming up.

OK i found a virus with AVG and removed it and it is still the same speed. I did the scan and this is what i found:

Oh yes and to let you know, i dont have internet in my room on that PC, i am on the family PC etc. It is my PC in my room that is slow. Oh and i upgraded the 2GB after i brought the PC.

doesnt mean it should run smoothly is the cpu ht or non ht and also are you running dual channel ram? i know i had a hp thats a 2.6 p4 non ht and non dual channel ram 2 gb and is sluggish because of it and no spyware and viruses.

Alright

-Firstly Go To Add Remove Programs
-Remove

- Google Tool Bar, Unless it is a MUST
- VTTimer, it has been traced with Spyware By some Sources

-Now Go too http://free.grisoft.com/doc/20/lng/us/tpl/v5
-Download AVG Spyware Free.
-Run Scan, Quantine/Delete anything it finds.

-Click Start
-Type msconfig
-Go To End Tab
-Remove anything you dont need from Start Up.
-Reboot
-Choose NOT to run msconfig everytime if the thing pops up

Hey thanks for all this help.

I removed what you said, except VTTimer. I dont know how to remove this and also when i looked in "system32" it said it was my graphics etc. If i remove it (right click>delete) will it screw up my pc? I have a feeling i will not be able to go on my pc if i delete it.

When i did the "msconfig" the only thing i put not to start-up is "VTTimer". Nothing happened.

Please help

my PC was going so slow and freezing just like yours, and this totally saved it, it was amazing. totally free and targets the problem exactly with a 3 minute scan, its perfect, then it obliterates it

I can see there is some spyware and Adware going on in your PC, try reinstall the whole XP and that will be the most "clean" Fix
