Slow PC (2GB and Pentium 4 2.60 GHZ)

Hey,

I will download www.zonelabs.com and really badly hope it works. Thanks for all the help.

I just recently re-installed XP, completely wiping the whole system. I dont know how stuff could get in.

Thanks guys! I will tell you how it goes

EDIT: Zone Alarm Pro isnt free, only the trial is. So if i download the trial will that work? Is that what you did?

Sorry for the double post.

I downloaded the trial for Zone Alarm Pro and i did the scan twice. Nothing was sorted, infact it went a little bit slower - the prog seems good though ;)

Can you do msconfig again, and tell me what is starting up.

^ For that, i did it and here is the list of everything running when my PC starts:

realsched
qttask
raid_tool
SOUNDMAN
Cliprex_WhenUSave_Installer
daemon
DaemonTools_WhenUSaveNow_Installer
AnyDVD
tfswctrl
sgtray
zlclient
VTtrayp
VTTimer
ctfmon
wwDisp
CTDetect
Microsoft Office OneNote 2003 Quick Launch
Adobe Gamma

In order.

Hope this can target the problem. This really gets on my nerves when it is slow. I wish that Zone Alarm worked :(. I hope you guys can help me with the problem:o

I will do the other ones as i cannot do online scans. I dont have internet on my computer that is slow, like i said before. I can only do scans on programs that i downloaded on THIS computer, which is the home computer.

Sorry and thanks.

Sorry for the double post.

I have done all of those scans and none of them did anything. Ad-Aware found something and is now deleted but apart from that, the PC is still as slow. It must be something to do with my Ram or stuff inside my PC. Can anyone recomend anything, maybe if i take out one of the 1GBs and just leave 1GB in there?

Please help.

Bad cooling can make your computer run slow, I know becuase I have bad cooling at the moment. I would check your CPU temp, in bios. Or download speed fan.

I think this is basicly a process of elemination till we find out what the cause is. How long have you had the computer, and how long has it been acting slow?

I have had the computer since just before the summer and sometime during a month after i had it it started acting slow. I didnt notice at first cause i didnt edit much but then it got annoying.
After the summer (quite recently, around October) i formatted it and started again. After a week of it being like this it went slow. Actually it was after i installed "Roxio 9". I have not got this anymore, thinking that after taking it off it would run fast but it doesnt so it cant be this.

So how would i go around finding out if it is over-heated?

temps should be in your bios, press f2 at start up, some computer don't have it in their bios though, like mine. So in that case download a free program called "speed fan". Google it. Temps should be under 60c at full CPU usage. You could also take the side panel off, if you see loads of dust all over, GET IT OUT OF THERE..

Also Roxio has been known to cause issues with computers, it made my moms run like crap. Use this program to help you find some registry entries from roxio that the removal (uninstall) did not get.

RegCleaner

I just went over your Hijack log, and YEP you definitely have roxio on your computer still, among other things I would get rid of.

Double click your hijack this log icon, and click on the button “do a system scan only“, then check the items you see below, and click fix. After that reboot and post another hijack this log.

OK i did speed fan and it is always under 60C.

Temp 1: around 45C
Temp 2: around 30-40C
Temp 3: around 30-40C

Around that.
So that is fine.
I also opened a program with speedfan on and it didnt go above 60C so it seems ok.

Erm, i am going to "basic" delete those files, the Roxio left over ones and hope for the best. I will get back to you on what happens [fingers crossed].

Is that on load?

I did another system scan and deleted/fixed the things you said. I did it twice to make sure everything was gone, and everything you listed was gone :D.

Here is the new scan:

okay, your hijack log looks much cleaner, although there is one more.

I have a few more ideas, after this I dunno what to do.

if you have window XP, open task manager, and click the tab "processes" then organize them alphabetically take a screen shot and post it here.

Hey dude,

Dont worry i deleted that after i posted the log ;).

Ok i will do that - when i have the time. I am just about to go out and watch the NFL with my Dad, do not have time to do that but sure will tommorow.

Thanks for the help.
