Slow speed from new router

I've got a new router (D-Link DIR-855) It's all set up and I can connect to the internet, but the speed is really slow. I should be on a 20 Mb connection and I'm only getting about 4Mb. It's deffinately the router because if i connect just the modem I get the full speed. The router is wired to the modem and PC so It'd not a wireless issue.
I've tried calling the support staff, but nothing they've said works.

Hmm, have you tried switching cables, resetting router, make sure there is no options that limit speed(not sure if d-link has that in their routers), etc?

Yea I've tried all the above, didn't see any options for limiting speed. I'm beginning to think it's just a faulty router. I noticed the light at the back of my PC where the network cable plugs in is orange, when I plug in just the modem (with the same cable) it's green. I've also tried changing the MTU value.

you an try to enable DMZ modeo n the router for the IP address on your computer. this allows for your computer to run outside the firewalla nd get a faster conenction if having speed issues.

try a diferent cable

It's possible the cable between your router and your computer is faulty or has a bad connector. You already know that the modem and the cable from it is good, but when you hook up your router and another cable to the computer, you get a slow connection. If you can get a different cable, try that and see if it fixes anything. It definitely makes a different how the pins are wired on CAT5E cables. If they aren't right, then it could slow the speed down. CAT5E cables and connectors are meant to be wired using a specific color code for each pin. Also if the cable from your computer is very long and has a lot of coils in it to hide the slack, that can slow it down too.

Tried the DMZ thing and changed the cable (even though it all works with the old router) with no luck. I think it could be the rj45 slot where the modem connects to, because of the orange light on the PC. Either way I think its gonna be changed for new one.
