Slow Speeds With A Good Connection ?

Hi everyone!

I know that I haven't been on the site for, oh, 3 months now, lol, but I have a question.

My laptop is fairly old (Acer Travelmate 2300), so my wireless network was working great a few months ago with a D-link DI-514 but then the router antenna died and it fell of a shelf and broke in half. So it was toast.

I went and bought a USB key/DI-524 combo the other day, and set it up. Its running unencrypted and has my high speed internet going into it, and my wireless on my computer says it is connected at 54mbps, and i am 3 feet away from the router, but when i do a speed test im getting like 100kbps. I should be getting around 5000. But my upload is still the same.

File sharing over the network also works great. It's just the download speed on the internet that has problems. I have tried resetting the connection, and the router, and everything.

Any ideas?

thats odd, im not sure it has anything to do with the router. first off welcome back to the forum. second what kind of internet do you have dsl. cable ect... third do you have any way you could connected via wire to run the same test. if you run the test again while connected via wire and it does the same thing you know it's not the wireless connection that is the problem. So that would be a good place for you to start.

hey,

sorry for not getting back to this for a while, but my laptop is having some serious issues..

i hate it lol

anyways, i have dsl internet (phone line), and if i plug it in directly (to the router) it runs at full speed.

I dont get it, this happens with my other computer too, i have bought a new router, and a new wireless card.

any ideas?
