Slow Start Up?

Hi,
I have just had XP installed onto a Compaq Presario 1200 laptop and now its taking ages to start up? I have not installed anything to load at start up.:confused:
It is an old machine, only 124MB Ram, 850 MHz..Processor is an Intel Celleron.
I have to use this machine for now as mine died:(

Is there any software out there that can help with this?
Or can you suggest something I might have done wrong?

One of my favorite apps to manage startup is Anvir Task Manager. (There is an option to buy it, but I use the free version and the paid version and I can't tell the difference.)

If you run this, look at the startup tab to find the different startup programs and options. Since I don't use IE, I disable all the IE browser startup objects. You can also look at the running processes and services (Windows TaskManager doesn't let you look at services) and see lots of statistics about them. The services tab will also let you manage the services and their startup settings.
 
Only 124 mb sdram and 850mhz??!!
No wonder the startup is taking age. Even with optimization software, the laptop cannot startup any faster.
Maybe you can try increase the page files.
 
type in msconfig.exe in RUN
go to startup tab then uncheck the unnecessary programs listed...
use a light antiviruse like avg small and effective... DO NOT USE NORTON i suggest personally.. its bulky
