slow when watching movie

hi guys, i notice that when i watch movies on my laptop nowadays it's has become rather slow or laggy..i also notice that my media player (bs player) has to drop frames in order to keep up with the movie and as a result i miss quite a lots of scenes. what's wrong with the problem here?

my laptop specs are as follows:

2.2ghz
512 ram

do you have wireless capability on your laptop? on mines, if i have it on, it occasionally freezes a frame for like a second. try turning it off if u have it.

updated video drivers? check the manufacture site if there are any new firmware. check if there are updated codec packs also.

those are affects of your computer not having enough free memory.
look at your task manager and see if any extra programs are running that u dont need.
disable start up shit too.if it wasnt running slow when u first bought it and now everything is slow. i suggest you reformat it, and start fresh. maybe do that after 5 months or something (or sooner if you install and try a lot of similar programs)

That is actually relevant, There is a lot of things that could be slowing it down, everyone can have there input as long as it remains on topic and is a reasonable response.

When I first got my DVD Drive the other day, I ripped a DVD on my computer and tried to watch it through Power DVD, It ran jerky and it was out of sync, so I tried windows media player and it worked fine. As Geof said have you tried other media players?

Ya, LongLiveTheRepublc is right, check the PF usage...you can see what is using up ur memory.

That says that it did work before, right? Well I would try using a different media player. Through time, your system will start getting slower and slower due to many things. Could be a lot of junk programs, adware, or whatever. Have you done a Windows update lately? and tried installing a newer version of the BS play or Windows media player? You can also try install latest codecs too. If this was to happen to me, I'd just clean out the system. I do a wipe out about 2 times a year.

hi sorry for the late reply..yes it did work before untill i installed ace mega codec pack. so i suspect that is causing the problem and i will uninstall it and post the outcome later. thanks

yes i have wireless capability but it didnt affect the performance in the past. i suspect it's that stupid codec pack!

how high of rpm is your hard drive if its 4200rpm upgrade to 5400 rpm hard drive heard it makes things run faster. never seen myself thats just what ive seen posted other places.

Yes, you'll see a considerable difference between 4200 and 5400, but not so noticeable from 5400 to 7200... unless you're working with large files (such as Photoshop).
