Well, a slow computer could be numerous things:
1. Spyware/Adware
2. Little Memory
3. Low Hard Drive Space
4. Slow Processor
And much, much more.

As he said, windows doesnt load ALL your accounts. You could just have a lot of stuff running at once. In order to correct this problem, go to START and click RUN. Then, type in 'msconfig' and click the startup tab. Those are all of the things that are running in the background. That should get your computer to be a little bit faster.

Get ad-aware se and run that, run a virus scan, and get spy bot.
My computer was running slow and after i did that it was heaps better.

it's probably like a PII, 256MBRAM, trying to run XP and all kinds of apps. Most likely needs a nice reformat, and a few upgrades. specs?

I can get XP running on a P2-350 with 256MB memory no sweat. It doesnt load as fast as the rest of my network but it certainly doesnt take 15 minutes or nothin ... perhaps the DMA/PIO got changed?

maybe he was exagerating about the 15mins? that long...and i would expect major HD failure or something. i would say 5 mins would be the worst possible spyware cause. my laptop is about 1/4th the speed of my computer, 128mbRAM, and it boots faster than my desktop lol. but its on 2KPro.

15 min isnt too long compared to the couple hours it took to put up our old computer before we go a new one.not exxaggerating

I ran Windows XP on a dell with 64 MB of RAM and 133 MHz . It was a bit slow, not slow as a death. It actually worked well :). I ony had 1 account, no password, set it up for best performance visuals and i never install any of these crappy programs that try to install with software you donload, those things KILL. Id be better if u atleast listed your Ram and Processor.

I installed windows XP Pro on a panasonic laptof 700mhz 64mb of ram and it ran just perfect until I instaled Norton Antivirus 2003 which we all know just brought that laptop to a halt! LOL...

i do that for all my machines...even my main one. every performance feature off and settings on low. i take speed/performance over looks...even if my computer can handle it.

I used to be torn between the two... I liked a nice looking desktop but I also like performance so I'd find myself doing anything I could to make my desktop look cool and then turning around to undo it all to turn around and do it all over again LOL! fortunately today computers are fast enough to snap to life and do everything almost instantly so I can finaly have a nice looking desktop and a speedy computer :-).
