Slowly Declining FPS in DAYZ

Title says it all. When I play I start at about 40ish frames on high (not highest) settings and it runs alright. Then as I play the framerate slowly declines until it's in the teens and 20's. Restarting the game fixes it but it's annoying. Any ideas? Specs are in my sig. My though was a memory leak but my RAM usage stays the same and I have 12 gigs of RAM and I never use more than 4 with the game. Haven't checked VRAM usage (which I'm about to).

Edit: VRAM usage was below half of my total VRAM so that's not the issue either. Temps are also normal. I'm stumped.

Also the game looks really fuzzy over all. Any settings I can change to make it look a bit sharper?

Edit Edit: Apparently if your 3D render setting resolution isn't the same or higher than your game resolution it makes it look really fuzzy and with muted colors.

Go to your video options.

Turn of post processing.

Make sure your resolution and 3D resolution match the optimim res of your screen

Turn off MSAA and use SMAA very high instead

Set the video memory setting to "default"

Set ATOC to All Trees

If you are still having performance issues then turn shadows down to the lowest settings.

Other than that there's not really much more you can do beside overclocking, but even a 2500k at stock clocks beat my 4GHz 955BE with 2.8GHz CPU-NB

So it just hates AMD? Fantastic.

Alright thanks I'll see what I can do.

Edit: Helped a little. My FPS seems to be a bit more constant now. Hovering around 30. Which is okay. I'm getting tired of super CPU dependent games when there's like 90 percent of games use mostly the video card. Then you get the one that is CPU heavy and it runs like a toaster and looks the same or worse as GPU intensive ones.

What do you mean 2800? For the north bridge? I'm kind of leery of pushing my board too far. It is an 80 dollar board...

Well it depends on how many VRM's the board has... you want at least 8+2. overclock.net has a spreadsheet of all AMD boards somewhere

Got it to stay stable at about 30 fps or so on lowish settings. Highly disappointed but I can at least play it now. Looks pretty lame but I guess I understand why it's so intensive, even if it looks meh. Thanks for the help.

Just to give you a refrence to your question on post #8

http://www.overclock.net/t/891696/a-short-power-phase-design-explanation

I don't know a whole lot about it but from what I gathered, 8+2 will give you better overclocks than 4+1 because 8+2 can deliver more stable power to the CPU, RAM and Northbridge? More stable voltages will allow you to fine tune the voltages to exactly what you need, rather than bloating the voltage to allow for the larger dips.

That's kind of what I was thinking. Knew it dealt with power and stability of overclocks.

Keep in mind that more phases use more power at idle compared to less phases. My board has 16+1 or 16+2 I think, so my idle usage isn't too great, but I could overclock to the moon if I wanted :D

If you ever do upgrade to an Intel CPU you will be happy if all you want to do is play ARMA and jerk off to benchmarks :D

I get the feeling when I upgrade my CPU/Mobo it will be Intel. I've never had true issues with AMD processors until this. GTA4 doesn't run too well but I think that's for both Intel and AMD. I love my AMD but not sure if they'll ever be back in the game enough to compete with Intel on the high end.

I was playing some more today and I got on a server that had just restarted and had a counter for number of zombies on. It was running at about 70 fps. I bumped my settings up to the normal setting and the FPS didn't change. As I played the number of zombies went up and my framerate slowly declined over time until it was back to its usual 30ish with about 500ish zombies on the server. So essentially the more zombies there are, the lower my framerate, and my graphics settings don't seem to change much of anything.

At least it looks good now.
