Ok, i am doing a build for a friend, who wants a good preforming PC, that is small as can be!
He want's it to be great preformance everywhere but the graphics card, which still has to have PCI-E for a future upgrade to an awesome graphics card!

Basically, he wants a very small case housing, what i recommended, which is a 3000+ w/good FHS for OC'ing, 1gb value ram, a dvd burner, larger hdd, and possibly an ATI remote wonder thingy.
Budget is good to me since i'm used to working around the same budget. it is $850
integrated, or a low-tec graphics solution should save money here.

basically, he wants a shuttle PC only cheaper.

OMG i just checked out cyberpowersystem to see what case that was, and i customized a pc, and its actually pretty cheap!!!!!!!
specs:
3000+
1gb corsair
300gb hdd (16mb)
nec 3500 series dvd burner
lights
geforce 6600 256mb (ok card i guess but card isn't important)
speakers (2.1)
keyboard (logitec)
mouse (microsoft optical)

$669!

1. So whats the motherboard? PSU?
2. NEC3500, while not as troublesome as the 2500s, wasnt perfected until the 3520 (which uses a different core chipset than the 3500 and as such cant be firmware hacked)

- AMD Athlon64 X2 3800 [S939, Manchester, ADA3800DAA5BV, $320]
- MSI RS482M4-ILD [$80]
- PQI Turbo 2x512 [CL2.5, $70 after $25MIR]
- NEC3540A [$40]
- XClio 450W [12V@32, $50]
- Maxtor MaxLine III 300GB [16MB, $130]
Subtotal = $690

Tons of room for all the rest of that crap they toss in with a computer.

Haha nothing like upping to a dual core chip for a final price delta of damn near nothing :P

You are missing the $80 case that i like, keyboard, speakers, mouse, video card (even though not to important).

although i do like where u went with it. I'll cut some stuff, and add some stuff and see where it gets me.

thanks

I dont give a damn about the case. :) It doesnt affect the performance of the box and considering theres 160 bucks left till the budget there's tons of room to get the case and all that extra crap

I've worked around the parts you have suggested (changed alot of them to meet budget), and i've come up with a good solution IMO. It even leaves a little room for shipping.

just a few questions,
1. Does that aspire PSU sound good? Like the brand, becasue i know 500W and dual +12v with 16&18 is very good specs wise.
2. Would the preformance between the 3500 and 3200 be to noticable for like games or any of the such?

Me personally ... i dont like them. I wouldnt use one on a system for me or my close friends/family. Generally speaking? They're good enough for most people and I cant say ive had any serious issues for the ones that ive used.

Probably not. And the 200MHz different is a simple 20MHz core upclock :)

Ok, then i'll go with the 3200+, and i'll look at psu's some more and up the cooling i believe, so OC'ing is possible, and maybe even see if i can unlock pipes on the GTO2 like i've heard is possible.

No clue how fast it is, but it's probably competitive with the Nforce 4 chipset or something.

if i had something to compare it to, i would but i don't right now.

Get the Aspire XQPack case.

I saw that case at a LAN party and it looks great, but the handle on the front broke off, its not very reliable. But otherwise that case looks BEAUTIFUL!!:P

Try This It might help ya a little I don't know if you could get just the housing.. Hewlett-Packard Pavilion Slimline Desktop with Intel® Celeron® M Processor 370 or Hewlett-Packard Pavilion Slimline Desktop with Intel® Celeron® M Processor 360
hope I helped a little..

sorry but it's not gaming inspired enough. also i looked at the XQpack, that was my original case idea, but then i saw the very awesome looking AMS case that i have picked out. i love those led's on the front
