Small Problem!

I have an annoying little problem with my laptop!. The (i dont know what you call it, sorry) hour glass thing is constantly flashing beside the cursor even though i havnt clicked on anything. Even when im in microsoft word its still there annoying me flashing but doing nothing...Could someone please help!!!!

Is your hard drive light flashing alot to? Could be the system is just working alot. :)
Anyway you can alway turn that hour glass off if it annoys you so badly.

1. Goto start>run>type control (press enter).

2. Click on printers and other hardware

3. Click on mouse. Goto the pointers tab, from here you can change or turn of the different points (in your case the hour glass).

Thanks ill try that but before i do is that not papering over the cracks as they say.....if theres a problem id like to try fix it rather than just turn the hour glass off. oh and yes your right the hard drive is constantly flashing aswell.....!!
 
no, there are different pointers you can select, and you may have one that has an hourglass constantly on. try switching it to none or windows standard.
 
more than likely , you have something in the back ground runng, either a rogue or broken program,,, or spyware , virus, trojan
 
Id say i have a program running somewhere in the background too. How woud i find what it is and stop it or delete it. I did a virus scan of the laptop and 1 was detected but i cant delete it or quarentine or clean it so could that be it??If so what do i do?? thanks for all your help..
 
Iv got rid of the virus now but its still happening. Theres still something running in the background and its annoying and actually slowing down my work a small bit..Any more ideas????Thanks
 
do ctrl alt delete.... then select task mngr,,, then processes, look for one that is hogging all the resources, except for idle process,,that should normally be 98%..
 
or you could try and shutdown whatever programs your not using. go to start, search, all files and folders. Then type in MSCONFIG, go to the tab that says startup, and uncheck whatever programs you know you dont use, or that shouldnt be running. when you restart it will ask if you want to keep the settings, select yes. Oh yeah, the icon is a gray icon, it will most likely have a link with the words pchealth in it. Good luck!

Or he could just goto start>run and type msconfig :)

Anyway before you go randomly unticking things type the startup item into google. It should give you a description and if its safe to disable. ;)
