does my monitor effect my gpu?

if i just bought a 8800gt do i have to worry about my monitor being able to keep up?

dont know specs of monitor sorry, its old(3-4year) its a dell.........

Nope, it works the other way round. Your GPU supplies information to your monitor, so in order to run a monitor at high resolution, you need a GPU that can supply alot of information. The 8800GT does this very well.

However, in order to use the 8800GT to it's full potential, you may need a monitor with higher resolution. On your current monitor, it should run very fast.

so to get full potential, id want a good monitor but itll still work for now? ok thats good, i just bought a good starteer rig so i can upgrade later.

Thanks
