I have a Packard Bell with Windows XP and I'm trying to use smart restore but it says there's a file missing and it won't work. I didn't get any discs with the PC so what do I do?

it doesn't say which file. it shows this too
c.jpg

what does that mean? sorry I'm not much of a computer person:o

Well according to here:http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;324767
it means that one of these files below are missing or damaged:

• Config.nt
• Autoexec.nt
• Command.com

The trouble is you need the windows disk to re-install em, you could try googling for these files but I dont think you will have much luck.

Maybe someone else could suggest another fix?

EDIT: given your error message you need to find a copy of autoexec.nt and place it in your system32 folder.

Hi again,

looks the like the file you need is available here:

http://www.oldmp.com/forms/download/xpservicepack2.htm (see link in step 2)

once you have this downloaded the .zip file the autoexec file should be inside, you then need to CLICK START>RUN and type c:\windows\system32 and this should open up your system folder, drag the downloaded autoexec.nt file and place it in the folder, if it asks to replace the old one then select yes and then try to do what you were doing, if that dosent work then see the microsoft link in my earlier post and read from step 5
