Smell coming from PSU?

Hi, I just bought a Thermatake 650W modular powersupply, their toughpower series. After building my brand new computer and turning it on, everything seemed to be running alright and I'm installing Vista right now. The only thing I notice though is that there seems to be a smell coming from my computer and it seems to be from the PSU. At first I thought it was a burning smell but its not really a burning smell, its...I'm not sure how to explain it....something like a mix between a slight burning smell and a brand new car smell. My PSU doesn't seem to be hot or anything.

Do you think there's a problem with the PSU? Or am I just being paranoid and its just a temporary smell coming from a new powersupply. Thanks for all the help.

I'm also pretty sure that my build is under 650 watts, I'm only running one HD4850, one hard drive, one dvd drive, etc.

Is normal, just keep an eye for a burning smell.

New power supplies tend to have that smell of "new" on the few 4 days

Thanks a lot guys!

...Just found out that for some reason part of my cpu fan had popped out of my mobo :(. I was getting a message about the cpu overheating and had left it on for 10 min because I thought the message might've been a mistake since nothing seemed hot in my pc. I restarted my cpu and I'm getting around 42degreesC in bios on my e8400, is that a normal temperature? Also, since I'm extremely paranoid, did I damage my cpu since I left it running hot?

42 is a bit warm but acceptable
if it was high enough to damage (55+ i think) it should shut off

reseat the heatsink and fan with new thermal paste and it should cool down

I reseated my fan when I restarted my computer and was getting that temperature. I'm using the stock fan so it came with the thermal paste already on it so I don't have any on hand that I could put on. Hopefully it'll be alright, thanks for the help.

My temperature on my cpu dropped down to 39 degreesC so it seems to be alright!

yeah when you take the hs off though, it kinda breaks the cake that the paste formed, so it reduces its efficiency. After reseating a heatsink or fan its good practice to change it.

yeah clean and reapply

DO NOT get any on the motherboard!

A thin layer is all you need.

the stock paste pad is a bit crappy, invest in some decent paste in a tube
