SMS Messaging Program

Is there a program which will allow me to send FREE SMS mesages to mobile phones?

There are online places where you can send texts from the internet, but no programs exist to do this, the reason is because they still would have to go through the GSM networks, and that would cost, so noone is going to make a prgram, it would be just like having your phone, but with a big keyboard, it would still cost...
