so confused on speeds

I am soooo confused on memory speeds. I know what the speeds mean (PC100, PC3200, etc), but am unsure about compatibility. Can I put in memory with a higher rated speed than what the mobo needs? In other words, can I put PC133 RAM in a PC100 mobo and be alright? Thanks.

it will work, but it will run at lower speeds. that is, as long as the pins are the same, which i think they are.
