So I get myself a new CPU, and go into install the heatsink and fan...

And when I take out the stock heatsink (for my 4600+), I find that my CPU is sitting there, but there's no bracket for the new heatsink and fan that came with my new CPU (6000+). What the heck?

Why would my mobo not have the bracket, and where can I get it? Are there any fans that don't need the bracket and can somehow screw into the mobo with just the four screws like the stock heatsink? Would appreciate any help, thanks guys.

Are you saying your motherboard doesnt have a CPU retention bracket?

Yes, that's exactly what I'm saying =/ I just put in the old heatsink (which is basically a fan-looking block...not an elegant thing at all), and it's running at about 55 degrees Celsius under minimal load...hotter than I'd like.

that's pretty hot.

Argh I can't find that stupid retention bracket anywhere. Why is it sold out everywhere? Bizarre.

Is there a good cooler you guys can recommend that comes with its own custom bracket? If it's possible, I'd like to get one that doesn't require taking out the motherboard, but if that's the only way, then so be it.

Getting a whole new aftermarket cooler with its own bracket might be the only option I have. Damn, wasting so much money on this thing (at least I can use some of the parts for my future build).

**Actually, maybe I'll make a separate thread for this.**
