Between the two I would go with a tri monitor setup. Especially if money is not a factor.

my desk has a hutch with about 24" x 28" space for a monitor.
i also sit about 30" from my current monitor.

i figured the bigest i can fit there would be a 32"
the smallest plasma i could find is 42" hmm... ?

i know... but i just got it like a year ago
and i really use the hutch for my receiver, speakers, modem, router & other stuff.

took me a while to find one that i liked, i really want to keep it

Id go with the Tri monitor option,imo a large HDTV serving as a monitor does not look all that great,especially text...even when i tried using my 1080P 22" TV as a monitor it looked horrible.

as for the desk,meh sell it and build your own!
