I am going to buy all the necessary parts right around Christmas time.... (I have about $1000 right now, probably gonna get a bit more from relatives.) But I was thinking to myself today... do I know how to build a computer. I was fairly certain I did. But then I thought about it, a year and a half of saving, and what if I f*** something up. Can someone please tell me / guide me through what I have to do? The parts I will probably have the most trouble with are probably all of the electronics such as the case LED's etc, and the booting from the BIOS/ OS installation.

Help :'(!!

Also... does this: CD/DVD Drive burn and read CD's? What I mean is that, say I wanted to install a game on my computer would the drive read it? And say I wanted to burn a DVD for a friend, could the drive do it? I'm pretty much asking if this is a burner/writer all in one? Can someone please help!! http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3970029&sku=L12-1162 OEM

DVD drive will even burn RAM disks, so your good. Building a computer is easy, really. Like someone said, its like putting together furniture. I generally put in the cpu first. Then I put thermal grease, a little less then a size of a pea. If you have some on the heat sink already, you will harldy need any. Put on the heatsink. Put the RAM in. Now go to your case, make sure that all the stand offs are screwed into the mobo tray. Also put the I/O shield that came with your mobo into hte case, you'll see what I mean. Scre the mother baord in. Put dvd and HDD's in, followed by the vid card, network cards, or anytthing else you are putting in there. This should do it. You can also google "computer building guide", which should help you. the case leds and power/reset buttons will bee shown to you in the motherboard manual/case manual.

Oh and as for installing the OS, just boot from CD. You can do this in the bios. Just go into every link till you find one that you can change the boot sequence to start from CD. the, you will be given the option to boot from CD, do so. follow on screen instructions. Once the OS has installed, install the driver CDs, that came with your stuff, restart the computer, set the boot sequence so that it starts with HDD. Trust me, its easy. I have re-installed xp A LOT OF TIMES!

Hoping the best,

Another great way, is to go on youtube and search around. I found those a big help.

Wow thanks guys you were all a lot of help!! Just one question... do the gold prong thingys that hold the motherboard up usually come with the motherboard.. and is this a good motherboard? http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applicati...tails.asp?EdpNo=4179059&sku=MBM-680ISLI-Q6600

P.S. (sorry for all my questions, I'm getting a wee bit excited since I've been saving for a year and a half...) Should I get the 9800GTX+ or the HD 4850?

I wouldn't get that motherboard and processor combination. If you buy the components separately (processor and motherboard) you can get them for a better price and you can get better components.

An Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 is also a very good processor. It also runs at a higher clock speed than the Q6600. Take a look at these components:

Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale (3 gigahertz) processor - $207

GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3P - $162 (Also has $20 mail in rebate)

This video card is also a good pick in my opinion:

EVGA 896-P3-1260-AR GeForce GTX 260 896 megabyte 448-bit GDDR3 video card - $271
