In shorts, I have two websites and a gaming server to run. I want to set up a dedicated server to run the three (I can't use hosting, my site uses executable CGI's :()

I have an old, but decent, PCI graphics card, Pentium 4, keyboard, mouse, and probally a few CD drives and hard drives laying around.

I think the only component I don't have is the mobo :(

What do you's sugggest? Am I correct that I can just toss together a mobo, CPU chip, some RAM, etc, and have the computer going (Of course, ill install the OS)? If so, what other components do I need?

If it's going to be a server (like you've said), a pentium 4 prob won't cut it. AMD and Intel have special server models.....if you insist on using a pent 4, yes, you are correct that if you get a mobo, everything will work just dandy.

to run a web server and a gaming server, you could do that on a pentium2

people need to get past this idea as to what a server is, they hear sever and the start thining mainframes, server racks, as400, huge blades etc...

technically all cgi scripts are executable
permissions withstanding :D

indeed they do, my file server which is accessible via the ent is an old AMD K6-2 running @ 500Mhz with 76Mb RAM and a 6Gb HDD, lol... when people say server, they always think of corporate, microsoft, digital enterprising, its not, they are servers, yes, but extreme servers.... you do not need anythign like that.

Many server hosting packges dont allow CGI at all.

Also, As other said, that machine will do fine, what i would be worried about msot is your nternet connection, depnding on what game your runnign a server for, I would suggest a T1 connection line. Most cable lines wont cut it because they have slow upload speeds. It might do fine for the websites though.
