I have all my fianances set up for a new pc after the April 22 Price cut. I have $1280 to spend on a new system..I would build, but I would hate to spend $1300 and f*ck up a brand new system because of my lack of knowledge and I wouldn't have money to spare to fix it away(I'm 15 so money isn't always plentiful). I've been told that if I buy a prebuilt system hp is the way to go because they use quality parts out of all the main pc companies. I've found this hp pretty nice and in my price range, and it uses an Asus motherboard: http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/HP-Pavilion-Media-Center-TV-PC-M8020N/sem/rpsm/oid/176329/catOid/-12962/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do Also this is proof that the rumors are true about the new processors coming out with the 4mb cache.

Of course building it yourself would be cheaper. With that do you get a monitor ?

Newegg prices for the items it has:

E6300 (I know its the E6420, but when it'll come out the suggested retail price will be the same as the E6300 now)
185

P5B-e (surely much better than what they used)
146.99

Kingston 2x1gb DDR2-667 (this is not the cheapest, but its the cheapest known - for me - brand)
106.99

Seagate 7200.10 320gb (once more not the cheapest, but known to be reliable)
2x 84.99

Lite-on DVD burner with lightscribe
30.99

Antec Sonata II Case with 450watt PSU (should be at least equivalent to what they use)
99.99

That adds up to 739.94 without o/s, without GPU (the cheapest 8800GTS 320mb GPU from Newegg is 259.99 with MIR and that card is likely to be better and pricier than the 7350 which has only 128mb), also the keyboard and mouse are not included.

Perhaps the prices are similar, but you can design it a lot better and more to your needs if you build it yourself.

Well I have a 19 inch widscreen I bought in novemeber that I would use. I would need a wireless keyboard and mouse. and The OS would be Vista Home Premium for $120 on newegg.

main reason you should get customer care is cuase u will have problems with vista. (software compatibilities).

id say build it yourself, you will be much happer with a comp that you build with your own two hands.

GL either way tough

Ok, well building the computer It would be around a total of a $200 saving and I would have the option to overclock with the mobo. Also I picked the mobo out because it supports quad core and the up coming processors in the fall with the 1333mhz fsb. I also picked out ddr 800 ram because I would like to get the fastest memory I could for the mobo and the price is excellent. Here is the price of a computer comparable to the hp I linked up before:the only thing is the custom built one only have 320gb of hdd which is more than enough for me. heres a pic of my build with total to my house. It's $1033 to my house where the hp would be $1230 with tax before a $50 mail in rebate. I did forget the mouse and keyboard in my build, but I would pick up a cheap $30 logitech wireless set on new egg. So I'm looking at about $1065. I won't be using the e6300 either, I'll be using the e6420 which will be the same price as the e6300 is after april 22(hopefully newegg will get a crap load of them because I have a feeling demand will be high...maybe it's just me?).

just wondering, does the HP come with a awesome tv tuner like the one you have in your custom built rig? cause i doubt that id does, and if not then that is another 75$ you should add to the savings list :D. just makes the custom build that much better. GL and best wishes man.

Well i went to both circuit city and best buy yesterday, found the HP, and both of them would not move on the price of $1149( I had a sheet showing them I could get it for $979 after rebates on amazon.com, but they don't compete with them), so I left empty handed, not in that big of a rush for a computer. I've waited over 2 months for the price cuts, and I'm not about to give in to prebuilt computer companys a week before. I found that walmart actually just started listing it on its website for $1119. And with tax and shipping, that came out to just over $1200. I have a total of $1280 to spend, and most likely will build. I just like the fact that I'd have so many options of upgrading down the road. I'll post another thread before I build with all the parts I'm going to use and see if anyone has suggestions, but right now I'm waiting to see what happeneds after April 22nd with prebuilt desktop prices. Until then I'm stuck using a core solo 1350 laptop hooked up to my 19 inch widescreen. BTW this would be my first build, but I've been planning a build for 2+ months now and have gained a lot of knowledge on which brand is good and which isn't.
