my guess is that they're going to rename the 8800, and gtx 200 families to gtx 3xx

wow, bravo nvidia. i think they did a nice job making a card that can compete with the hd 5870. on most it beats the hd 5870 by 10+. the only times the hd 5870 beats the gtx 480 are in a couple games and only by 1-5 or so fps. as long as the cards can overclock well and scale well in sli, they should be able to take the top spot (ignoring the hd 5970, which beats the snot out of everything).

I read somewhere that the GTX480 uses more power than the ATI 5970. And the GTX480 in SLI uses 851 watts, yikes.

yeah that was interesting how they had to disable some of the shaders in order to keep the power consumption down. these days that is a big deal to people (well, most people).

Thats one of the main reasons these cards have a huge fault, for around 10% improvement overall, the thing uses more power than a 5970 which FPS wise beats the 480 anyhow. Not to mention, crossfire scales better than SLI, so in real world usage i would imagine something like tri fire 5870's would be at or above the performance level of three GTX480's.
