So I've run into a problem.. help!

I am building a computer out of extra parts I had left over from my old computer right now. So I went out and bought a cheap case and power supply, 50 bucks for both, from microcenter. The case is the coolermaster elite series 300 (although there is nothing elite about this case, this computer will most likely be used for just music or simple things, not really gaming or anything). The case came with a 350 W power supply (which I think is a standard atx ps2).

Now my problem comes in connecting the power chords to my x1900xtx and my asus a8n sli deluxe. None of the chords will fit perfectly into the power slots I have. My video card has a six slotted power input, and the only smaller power inputs this new power supply have has four. I tried to even fit those four in and no go.

The main power for the motherboard has a 12 slotted input, but the largest power chord coming out of the power supply is 10 pronged.

I asked the guy while I was in microcenter if he thought the power supply would power an amd 3500+ and an x1900xtx, and he said yea sure it could do that.

My only hope is that I could connect the 10 pronged into the 12 prong connector, and when I plug in power I get an LED light on the mobo, so it must be getting some power.

Is my situation hopeless? Do I have to go back to microcenter and try to convince them that they didn't know what they were takling about when they told me this cheap power supply could power my computer? Or perhaps, the best answer I would love to hear from you guys is that I simply need to buy some adapters or something.

Please help me!

So I read up on the asus a8n SLI deluxe (the mobo), and it says it is backwards compatible with the 20 pin. I still can't get it to turn on though. I have not bought the adapter for the video card power yet, but I have everything else plugged in (or so I think).

When I turn on the power switch I get the green LED light to come on on the mobo. Then I try to start the computer, using the power on button on the case, and I can't get any of the fans to spin. The obvious problem would be the power switch two pronged connection, but I am pretty sure I plugged it in right.

Any ideas? meh..

That 4 pin is for the motherboards. Such low output powersupplies will not include one. I doubt that PSU itself could power a X1900 anyways. Scrap that one and get a quality one. hec Orion 585W for example...

Yea that would probably be the best option. Thanks for the suggestion. I'll probably go stop by microcenter later today. It just sucks that the guy told me that he thought a 350 watt psu could power the x1900. I didn't really think it would be possible cuz its such a cheap power supply. Oh well, the whole case and PSU together was only 50 bucks.

So I just ran into an even larger problem. Very big problem. Very frustrating.

I came home and again tried to boot up this new computer but with no luck. I can still get the green LED on the mobo, but I cannot get any of the fans to turn on or the computer to boot up.

So, I had the amazing idea to plug my other power supply from my other computer into the new motherboard. I do it, plug in the 24 pin and 4 pin, and successfully get the green light to turn on the new motherboard, using my main computer's power. I attempt to boot and nothing happens. I figure it might have to be connected to the video card as well, so I plug in the 6 pronged connector into the video card on the new computer, and turn on the power. Now I no longer have a green LED light.

Oh crap.. so I unplug everything and plug it all back into my old computer just as it was. (EXACTLY as I remember it. I literally only unplugged 3 chords.. the 24 prong, 4 prong, and 6 prong). I attempt to turn on my old computer, and nothing. I cannot, now, get my old computer to give me ANY signs of life. I have absolutely no idea why this is happening. I didn't change anything about the old computer's setup.

My theories:

1. I somehow wired the two together and short circuited them. Given that the power for every other chord (the HD, a few fans) were still plugged into my old power source, and those things (the HD) were plugged into the other motherboard, there is an established connection. I find this unlikely.

2. My power supply spontaneously broke.

Please.. I am so ridiculously frustrated by this now that I have no idea what to do. I have sat staring at both computers trying to think of some way I could get life out of them.

I am still able to get the green LED light on the mobo in the new case to turn on, but I am unable to get any of the fans to turn on.

AHHHHHHH

update to my problem: I can now get fans running in the new case.. but I can't get a video signal. The fans finally ran once I got an adapter to plug into the video card for power. I am assuming the video card is not getting enough power, because I have no other explanation for having no video signal.

well earlier in the post it sounds like u had the power and reset switches plugged into the board, as why the power button wouldnt turn the comp on. but yes either the pcie slot is broke or the psu just cant provide enough power

alright so heres the situation now.. I fixed my main computer by buying a new power supply. It seems as if my old one broke.

Now, with the new computer I can get the green led light to turn on, but in strange ways. First, if I plug in the 4 pronged power plug into the motherboard, ever, it seems, the motherboard will not receive any power. If I unplug that, plug in the 24 prong and the ez plug, and video card power, I can get power, but the video card says it does not have enough power. I tried this with a 450 watt power supply, so honestly I think it has something to do with that 4 pronged plug. Any suggestions?

I've had a motherboard that worked without the 4 pin. Either try another power supply, or something's wrong with your motherboard. See how it runs without the 4 pin.
