So many questions. Quad Core, Core 2 Duo????????

ok i was wondering which is better. core 2 duo or core 2 quad.

what i wanna know is....

1. Which is Better
2. if a quad core is better what programs use all 4 cores
3. obviously if i get a quad core im waiting for the price drop because i wont pay 4 or 5 hundred dollars for a proccesor at the moment at least.

so which is better will i see a difference between the cores.

there are probably close to 20 threads that talk about this exact topic, please use the search button

They are both good, but if you have the money to spend i would get a quad :). Maybe with normal gaming and everyday tasks im not sure if you would be able to tell the difference

Flight Simulator X, the sims and expansions WoW. would i get a quad for those

Well, what are the specs of the system this will go in? you probably wont tell the difference unless you do some more multitasking. Also depends on your video card as to what would or could be a bottleneck.

A bottleneck basically means that one or more pieces of hardware is limiting whats capable of your other hardware. For instance, if you have an 8800GTX, 2GB of RAM, and only a Pentium 4 2.8, the CPU is bottlenecking the system.

As to your first question, the quad-core would be best to go with if you plan to keep the computer for a while, after the price drop they will be well worth it IMO.

Ya see im going to boarding school since my mother is a med student. im leaving August 4th were driving to West Virginia (thats where it is www.linsly.org if u wanna see it) well this computer will be my dorm computer and i will be using it all the way until college (most likely) and the reason i picked the core 2 duo was because i new i could get it and build the computer real fast. but if i wait for the price cut (the 22nd) will that give me enough time to build the computer for it to be up and ready. i dont want to take the chance that the processor will be sold out and i wont have a processor for the pc. so any ideas should i bite the bullet and buy it @ 500 dollars. if not should i wait for the 22nd and will that give me enough time to build the computer (this will be first build) so any idea's???

Whoa, whoa, whoa! Trust me man, the Intel will NEVER run out of Core 2 Duo processors. I've heard a rumor that Intel Chairman sleep on like a pillow stuffed with Core 2 Extreme processors :) I'm just joking

So what I would do is to relax and get your parts ready for your computer build such as graphic card, motherboard, etc. and just get the CPU at 22nd from newegg or something.

Any help?

they make way to many different series of core 2 duo, for a newbie builder or the average person it is hard to pick one out of the pack.

i kinda have a feeling the quads will be all taken from newegg when they are 300 in 2nd day or so, i hope not much people know about the price drops

IMO I think a quad core would be over kill for you. Most games, from what I understand, don't run fast on quads just do to the fact they are made to use them at their full capability. From what I can tell from what you have already posted, you wouldn't really be able to tell the difference between a dual core and a quad core anyways just becuase of what you are using it for.

Definitely true.

Long time ago, our OS used to be so much advanced than the actual hardware of the computer so the OS was actually overkill at that time.

But as the technology increased significantly over short period of time, our hardware of the computer got advanced WAYYYYY over our OS.

So basically most of the apps that we have doesn't actually 100% use the hardware's full capabilities and their performance. Just like even our new sexy Window Vista doesn't use our hardware's 100% true potential.

get a quad cause then later on your gonna wish you spend that extra 60 for 2 e6600 but did you know they are coming out with e6850 and they are stock clocked at 3.0ghz i think ull benifiet alot from that with a gtx

and guys im geting a q6600 and a 8800gts do you guys think ill be getting any bottlenecks

Nope. Not at all.
